New Partnership with GRIT Freedom Chair Allows More Guests to Explore Acadia National Park
Recently, Terramor Outdoor Resort tested the functionality of the new GRIT Freedom Chair’s at Terramor Outdoor Resort. Randy Howell, an employee with Kampgrounds of American, Inc., visited Terramor and tried out the chair. Read below for his experience.
As an enthusiast of the great outdoors and a 30-year employee of Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA), whom owns and operates the Terramor brand, I recently had the unique opportunity to test the GRIT Freedom Chair. The Freedom Chair is an innovative all-terrain wheelchair designed to enhance accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges. My experience with the chair at two of our picturesque locations in Maine, Terramor Outdoor Resorts // Bar Harbor, and Bar Harbor KOA Holiday tested the chair’s capabilities and opened my eyes to its vast potential for enhancing outdoor experiences.
Unboxing and Assembly: How to Set Up a GRIT Freedom Chair
My journey began with the unboxing and assembly of the GRIT Freedom Chair. Although it took me and a colleague about an hour to set everything up—a bit longer than anticipated—the process was straightforward with easy-to-follow instructions. Despite a minor hiccup with the tubing on one of the handles, which we quickly resolved, the assembly was completed relatively easily.
Getting Comfortable: Trying Out the GRIT Freedom Chair
Learning to use the chair was an adventure in itself. The initial operation required a bit of a learning curve, with the chair demanding a good deal of core and arm strength. However, the intuitive design and helpful online videos made the adjustment period smooth. Navigating various terrains across campgrounds, from paved roads to grassy sections and gravel areas, the Freedom Chair proved its capability to handle diverse landscapes, making it a valuable tool for accessibility and independence in outdoor settings.
Throughout my journey with the GRIT Freedom Chair, I encountered a blend of challenges and triumphs. Testing the chair’s limits and capabilities across varied terrain both at Terramor and at Acadia National Park brought to light its remarkable potential and areas for refinement. One challenge—a moment when I flipped the chair backward on an incline—underscored the importance of additional available features. However, the responsiveness and support from GRIT were immediate. Upon communicating my needs, a stability bar was quickly shipped to us, enhancing the chair’s safety and usability.
Bringing GRIT Freedom Chair to Terramor
Terramor is committed to connecting people to the outdoors. With the successful testing of the chair at both Terramor and Bar Harbor KOA, we have decided to add a GRIT Freedom Chair to our Gear Lending program. This means guests with mobility issues will have complimentary use of the chair while staying at Terramor. By adding the Freedom Chair to our Gear Lending program, we are further demonstrating our commitment to breaking down barriers to the outdoors and ensuring everyone has an opportunity to adventure their way.
